If you are new to karate, the first class can seem a little daunting, but it is also an exciting step toward starting your martial arts journey. At Samurai Karate Croydon, we understand that taking the first step into a new activity can be intimidating. That is why we make it our priority to create a welcoming, supportive environment where all beginners, no matter their age or fitness level, feel comfortable and confident.
A Warm Welcome
When you arrive at Samurai Karate Croydon for your first class, you will be greeted by our friendly instructors and staff, who are there to ensure you feel at ease. Whether you are attending alone or with a family member, we understand that trying something new can raise questions, and we will be happy to answer any you may have.
Getting Ready for Class
For your first karate class, you will need comfortable clothing that allows for movement, such as a t-shirt and pants, or a tracksuit. You do not need to have a karate gi (uniform) for your first class, as that will be provided later when you continue your training. Our instructors will explain the basic dojo etiquette, including how to bow when entering the dojo, and other important traditions to help you feel part of the martial arts community from the very beginning.
You will be introduced to other students in your class and guided through the day’s activities. We believe that karate is a great way to meet like-minded individuals, so you will be part of a supportive group that shares similar goals.
Learning the Basics
In your first class at Samurai Karate Croydon, you will start by learning basic stances, movements, and footwork. These are essential building blocks that help you develop a solid foundation in karate. Our instructors will walk you through these foundational skills at a comfortable pace, ensuring that you understand the techniques before progressing further. You may also begin learning basic strikes and blocks, focusing on proper form and body alignment.
It is important to remember that your first class is all about learning the basics and setting yourself up for future success. Do not worry if you do not catch on immediately—karate is a skill that takes time to develop, and consistency is key. Our instructors are here to guide you every step of the way, providing individual attention when needed and encouraging you to progress at your own pace.
Focus on Discipline and Respect
During your first class, you will also be introduced to the core values of martial arts, including discipline, respect, and perseverance. These values are an essential part of every karate practitioner’s journey. You will learn about the importance of showing respect to your instructor and fellow students, which is the foundation of creating a positive and harmonious dojo environment.
In addition to physical techniques, karate also trains the mind. Through practice, you will learn to focus your thoughts and energy, helping to sharpen your mental clarity both in and outside the dojo. At Samurai Karate Croydon, we believe that martial arts training offers not only physical benefits but also mental and emotional growth.
A Positive and Supportive Atmosphere
At Samurai Karate Croydon, we foster a positive, supportive atmosphere where beginners can grow without feeling pressured. You will be encouraged to ask questions, make mistakes, and progress at a pace that works for you. Our goal is to ensure that you leave your first class feeling inspired and motivated to return, knowing that you are on a path toward improving yourself physically, mentally, and emotionally.
